Big surge in registered voters in Sheffield Central

By Rob Green

Sheffield Central has had a massive influx of registered voters for this election.

Some 89,849 people are signed up to vote in the constituency, up more than 12,000 from the 2017 election. This follows a national trend.

At the last election the turnout was just 62.2 per cent, second lowest across the city.

The student-heavy constituency may see a larger turnout this time around, with the General Election being called whilst students are still at their universities.

With students generally believed to favour the Labour party, candidate Paul Blomfield may be happy to hear this news.

Polling stations will close at 10pm tonight.
